7 Effective Tips to Stay Awake and Active

Feeling sleepy is an ailment that affects many people irrespective of circumstance. Continuing lethargy and inability to focus make daily activities time-consuming and difficult to enjoy. Rather than suffering from drowsiness the whole day, take a step to improve your mental clarity and concentration.

Drink lots of water- Drinking water regularly throughout the day will help you not feel sleepy. Usually, these feelings of fatigue and lethargy are due to basic dehydration. So if you drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning and continue drinking water throughout the day, you will get through the feeling of drowsiness.

Don’t forget to eat breakfast- Push yourself to get up early, and take the time to eat complete breakfast. Doing so will keep your metabolism in sloth-mode and you will also get all the nutrients that are necessary to energize you throughout the day.

Eat Frequently- Rather than following the socially dictated rule of taking three large meals a day, try to take 5-7 smaller meals in the day. This will help you in keeping your blood sugar levels up and will also provide you with more nutrients and vitamins to stay focused.

Exercise more often- When you are already in the state of mid-afternoon drowsiness, getting up on your feet and moving around can be very difficult. But, if you add up to 10 minutes of physical activity in your daily routine then, you can control your exhaustion and you will also feel a big change in your everyday life.

Get Vitamin D- Exposure to sunlight increases the vitamin D levels, which are really helpful in boosting up the energy. If you’re lucky enough to have good weather, take short breaks from your lethargic work indoors and get small reprieves.

Adjust your Caffeine Intakes- Drinking more than 2-3 cups of coffee doesn’t give a boost of energy. Doing so after 12 or 1 in the afternoon, worsens the sleep later in the day. So, limit your caffeine intake to 2-3 cups a day, so that you can get a boost of energy without nasty jittery side effects.

Regulate your sleep cycle- Try to go to sleep at the same time every night, and wake up at the same time every morning. This will help your body understand when sleep should occur every day, and will also reduce your drowsiness feelings during the day.
