Abu Dhabi Court Jails Two for Installing Illegal Emergency Systems in Private Car

Abu Dhabi’s criminal court has sentenced two individuals to jail after they were found guilty of installing unauthorised emergency and police style systems in a private vehicle, a violation that poses serious risks to public safety and road users.

According to judicial authorities, the defendants equipped the car with devices resembling official sirens and emergency lights, enabling them to imitate law enforcement vehicles on public roads. Investigators confirmed that the modifications were carried out without approval from the competent authorities, breaching UAE laws governing vehicle safety and the use of restricted equipment.

The court ruled that such actions undermine public trust, create confusion for motorists, and can be exploited for illegal purposes. Both defendants received jail sentences and were ordered to pay fines, with the court stressing that misuse of emergency systems is a criminal offence that will be met with strict penalties.

Officials reminded the public that only authorised entities may install or operate emergency signalling devices, and any attempt to imitate police or civil defence vehicles is punishable under federal law. Authorities urged residents to report suspicious vehicles and warned that inspections and monitoring will continue across the emirate.

The ruling reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to maintaining road safety, preventing impersonation of official vehicles, and ensuring that emergency systems are used solely by accredited agencies.
