Abu Dhabi Plants More Than 14 Million Seasonal Flowers to Beautify the City

ABU DHABI — Abu Dhabi City Municipality has planted more than 14 million seasonal flowers across the capital, bringing vibrant colour to roadsides, central reservations, public squares and pedestrian areas as part of a wider drive to enhance the city’s urban landscape and quality of life.

The large-scale planting programme forms part of the municipality’s operations and maintenance achievements and reflects its continued focus on natural beautification, sustainable landscaping and the creation of attractive public spaces for residents and visitors.

Millions of Flowers Across Abu Dhabi

The seasonal flowers have been distributed across prominent urban spaces, including roadsides, medians, squares and walkways. By using seasonal planting to introduce changing colours and patterns throughout the city, the municipality is seeking to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s visual identity while making everyday public spaces more welcoming.

A Much Wider Greening Programme

The flower-planting programme is only one part of Abu Dhabi’s broader landscaping work. The municipality also maintains more than 644,000 trees, around 1.4 million shrubs and over 512 hectares of green spaces.

These figures illustrate the scale of the capital’s ongoing horticultural and maintenance operations, which extend from decorative planting to tree care and the management of parks and other landscaped areas.

Native Ghaf Trees Support Sustainability

Alongside seasonal flowers, the municipality has supported environmental initiatives involving native ghaf trees under the ‘Plant the UAE’ initiative. Native planting can contribute to ecological resilience while complementing the city’s wider sustainability goals.

Beautification Linked to Quality of Life

Urban landscaping can play an important role beyond appearance. Well-maintained green areas, shaded spaces and attractive pedestrian environments can improve the experience of neighbourhoods and public spaces, supporting Abu Dhabi’s wider efforts to enhance liveability.

The municipality’s recent work has also included neighbourhood parks, accessible beach facilities, night swimming areas, road and intersection upgrades, public lighting improvements and maintenance of recreational facilities.

As part of its community-focused projects, Abu Dhabi City Municipality developed four neighbourhood parks featuring multi-use sports courts, children’s play areas and fitness zones. The projects are intended to encourage active lifestyles while improving access to recreational spaces.

Recognition for Abu Dhabi’s Green Spaces

The municipality’s work on parks and public spaces has also received international recognition. In 2025, Abu Dhabi City Municipality received 52 Green Flag awards for parks as well as five Blue Flag awards for beaches.
