Dubai Family and Friend Visit Visas Now Processed in as Little as 48 Hours

Dubai's visa processing has taken another step forward for residents. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai) said on 22 July 2026 that family and friend visit visas are now processed in as little as 48 hours once all requirements have been met and the fees paid, underlining the emirate's push toward faster, fully digital government services.

The update came alongside figures showing strong demand for the service. Major General Khalaf Ahmed Al Ghaith, Assistant Director General of the Entry Permits and Residence Sector at GDRFA, said the directorate issued more than 29,000 visit visas for relatives and friends in the first half of 2026 — a total the authority put at 29,456 — which he said reflected the efficiency of the system and its ability to keep pace with rising transaction volumes.

How the service works

The relatives and friends visit visa allows eligible Dubai residents to sponsor loved ones for short-term stays. Applicants can choose between single-entry and multiple-entry visas valid for 30, 60 or 90 days, selecting the duration that suits their plans. A single-entry visa permits one visit during its validity, while a multiple-entry visa allows the holder to enter and leave the UAE several times — useful for visitors planning regional travel during their stay.

Applications can be submitted through the GDRFA Dubai website, the DubaiNow app, or Amer customer happiness centres. Once the application is submitted with the required documents and the fee is paid, the visa is expected to be processed within about 48 hours, though the authority notes that times can vary and incomplete applications may take longer or require additional verification.

Approved visitors must enter the UAE within 60 days of the visa being issued, and the visitor's passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of application. Sponsors are typically asked to provide their own valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, a personal photograph and passport copy of the person being sponsored, and documents proving the relationship or purpose of the visit, along with any additional papers a particular case may require.

Eligibility and minimum-income thresholds vary according to the sponsor's relationship to the visitor rather than a single flat figure, so residents are advised to check the current criteria for their situation on the GDRFA Dubai channels before applying. Visitors may also apply to extend their stay from within the UAE, subject to approval, allowing eligible guests to remain for up to 120 days in a year.
