Dubai Police seize 13,657 electric scooters in 8 months over traffic violations

Dubai Police seized 13,657 electric scooters during the first eight months of 2026 as part of intensified traffic campaigns targeting riders who violate road safety regulations.

The campaigns are aimed at reducing dangerous riding practices and protecting scooter users and other road users from accidents, serious injuries and fatalities.

Dubai Police Intensify Traffic Campaigns

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said traffic patrols will continue taking action against riders whose behaviour puts themselves and others at risk.

Police teams are focusing on several violations that can create serious safety hazards across Dubai.

Riding Scooters on High-Speed Roads Among Key Violations

One of the major violations is riding electric scooters on roads where the speed limit exceeds 60km/hr, despite designated paths being available for scooter users in several parts of Dubai.

Police are also targeting riders who:

• Travel against the flow of traffic

• Ride on pavements, commercial markets and narrow alleys

• Cross roads dangerously

• Move between lanes across road dividers

• Ride in areas not designated for electric scooters

• Brigadier Bin Suwaidan warned that these practices pose a direct threat to riders and other road users.

Riders Must Follow Safety Requirements

Dubai Police also reminded electric scooter users of mandatory safety requirements. Riders must:

Wear an approved helmet
Wear a reflective vest
Follow traffic signals and road signs
Comply with police instructions
Use designated scooter paths
Observe applicable speed limits
Electric scooters must also have a white front light and reflector and a red rear light and reflector. Brakes must be in good working condition before every ride.

Dubai Police Urge Riders to Prioritise Road Safety

Brigadier Bin Suwaidan urged riders to use designated routes, follow speed limits and comply with all safety regulations.

He stressed that following traffic laws is a fundamental responsibility and plays an important role in protecting lives and improving road safety across Dubai.
