Dubai to introduce easier medical visas under new health tourism plan

Dubai also recently opened an initiative to streamline the medical visa process for overseas patients, bolstering its status as a global healthcare and medical tourism hub.


In an effort to have a seamless healthcare journey for patients travelling to Dubai from outside the country, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).


Collaboration Between Dubai GDRFA and the DHA


The GDRFA Dubai chief, Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, and Dr. Alawi Sheikh Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority signed the deal at GDRFA Dubai headquarters.


The partnership seeks to enhance cooperation between visa, residency and healthcare services ensuring a seamless end-to-end experience for international patients from application through treatment and recovery stage.


Medical Visa Processing Get a Medical Visa More Quickly and Easily


The new agreement is aimed at facilitating the medical visa processes and improving ease of access to healthcare services in Dubai between the two entities.

The initiative includes:

 

  • Faster medical visa processing

  • Better coordination of health and immigration services

  • Developed further digital integration between GDRFA Dubai and DHA systems.

  • Simplification of application process for outpatients from abroad.

  • Better post-treatment follow-up support


Stronger Digital Integration


The ministry claimed that it will enhance the electronic interface between both organisations, boosting service delivery and patient experience.


The initiative will also facilitate connection with Dubai's health insurance sector and the Dubai Health Experience network, already allowing members to place medical visa applications in a more streamlined manner for patients visiting from abroad.


Introduction of Smart Medical Visas

 

Officials say the relationship could lead to other innovations including:

 

  • Smart medical visas

  • Additional digital healthcare services

  • Enhanced patient support systems

  • More seamless service for healthcare and residency


Supporting Dubai's Healthcare Tourism Strategy


In terms of the agreement, this will contribute to enhancing the international reputation of Dubai for healthcare through the Dubai Health Experience initiative which introduces the emirate as a leading global destination for world-class hospitals, clinics and medical services to foreign patients.


Dubai: Vision For Unified Government Services


Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, said the agreement is in line with Dubai's path towards establishing connected government services and people-centered development.


He added: "The alliance reflects Dubai's aspirations for integration, innovation and superior customer experience, while consolidating the emirate as a leading destination for medical tourism in an increasingly competitive atmosphere.


Healthcare Tourism Beyond Treatment


Dr Alawi Sheikh Ali argued that the concept of healthcare tourism encompasses more than just Takaful, but also accessibility, service quality and ease.

The agreement, he said, backs the Dubai Strategy of solidifying the city as a prominent global hub for healthcare and wellness by providing patients with seamless online journeys from arrival to recovery.


Enhancing the Patient Experience


Dubai, meanwhile, wants to make the healthcare experience for international patients efficient, convenient and digitally enabled as it continues to grow its medical tourism sector through increased collaboration between health and immigration authorities.
