From heatwaves to 10°C: UAE travellers rethink Europe holidays in August

UAE residents travelling to Europe this summer have found that escaping the Gulf heat does not always guarantee predictable summer weather. While one traveller cancelled plans because of extreme heat, another had to buy a hoodie after temperatures dropped to as low as 10°C.

Heat Disrupts France Holiday Plans

Zeina, who travels to France every year to visit her family, usually chooses August because it is one of the hottest months in Dubai.

However, this year's trip to southern France and Paris felt very different. She described it as the hottest summer she had experienced, with temperatures remaining high even in the evenings.

The intense heat affected her holiday plans. Zeina travelled less between cities, cancelled some activities and spent less time at the beach because of the conditions.

“We had limited options with what to do,” she said.

Despite the heat, tourist crowds remained typical for the season. In Cannes, she also noticed several tourists from Dubai.

Zeina Still Plans to Visit Europe in August

The unusual weather has not changed Zeina's preference for European summer holidays.

She said she would still choose Europe for an August trip, but would check heatwave dates in advance and plan her activities accordingly.

From Summer Clothes to Buying a Hoodie

Liz had the opposite experience during her trip to the UK. She arrived expecting warm summer weather but encountered unexpectedly cold conditions in Scotland and northern England.

Temperatures fell to around 10°C, leaving her unprepared for the chilly weather.

“I think I just missed the heatwave when I reached there. I didn’t expect it to be so cold!” she said.

Liz had packed almost nothing warm, with only a cardigan that she had brought for the flight. As a result, she had to buy a hoodie during her trip.

London Brings Warmer Weather

Conditions were considerably warmer in London, where temperatures reached around 27°C to 30°C.

Although the heat affected Liz's makeup, it did not disrupt her plans or prevent her from enjoying the city.

“My makeup was smudging! But it didn’t stop me from enjoying the trip,” she said.

Long Summer Days Make Europe Worth Visiting

One of the highlights of Liz's trip was the long daylight hours. With the sun setting at around 10pm, she had more time to explore and enjoy outdoor activities.

“The sun didn’t set until around 10pm. It felt magical and gave me so much more time to explore,” she said.

Popular tourist areas were busy, but Liz found the crowds manageable.

Will Travellers Stop Choosing August?

For both travellers, unpredictable weather has not made August a less attractive time to visit Europe.

Zeina's experience shows how heatwaves can force travellers to change their plans, while Liz's trip highlights how quickly European weather can shift from hot to unexpectedly cold.

For UAE residents planning a European getaway, the message is clear: August can still be a great time to travel, but checking the forecast and preparing for changing weather conditions is more important than ever.
