Lebanon Denies Reports of Suspension in Rome Talks with Israel

BEIRUT — A Lebanese official source has rejected reports that negotiations with Israel have been suspended, saying preparations remain in place for another round of talks despite heightened tensions and repeated attacks.

The source told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that there has been no official announcement suspending the negotiations. An eighth round of discussions is still expected to take place in early September.

September Meeting Remains on the Table

According to the Lebanese source, participants in the seventh round of talks in Rome agreed in principle to hold the next round on September 1. The final date, however, is still expected to be formally confirmed.

Beirut Raises Concerns Over Southern Lebanon

The source also voiced concern about continuing Israeli demolitions, explosions and attacks in southern Lebanon. Lebanon is pressing the United States, which sponsors the talks, to address these issues ahead of the next negotiating round.

No Official Suspension Announced

The clarification comes amid speculation that escalating tensions could interrupt the diplomatic process. The Lebanese source stressed that, despite the security situation, no formal decision has been taken to halt the talks.

The expected next round will therefore remain an important test of whether the negotiating process can continue while tensions on the ground persist.
