The future of DXB Airport: when services are expected to shift to Al Maktoum
All services at the world’s busiest international airport will eventually be shifted to Al Maktoum, Dubai Airports CEO.
Dubai Airports chiefs have announced plans to relocate operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) by 2032, in favour of Al Maktoum International Airport — known as DWC.
It was announced last year during a keynote address at the Dubai Airshow that the switch between the two airports would be one of the largest in its type.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports said that after it reaches full capacity, DXB operations will move to Al Maktoum International Airport.
"Two years from now, we will break that 100 million milestone and then of course there will be 114 million heading through DXB by 2031 of which we are targeting to double digit growth in the next five to six years.
‘And then in the year 2032, that time where we achieve the world's largest transition of a horse to the world's largest airport from the world’s largest airport. That will be a big milestone.
“And of course, the technology we are testing today will be turned into that amazing new airport on an industrial scale.
