UAE Condemns Iranian Missile Attack on ADNOC-Linked Tanker in Strait of Hormuz

ABU DHABI, August 8, 2026 — The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned an Iranian missile attack that targeted an ADNOC-linked vessel while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, amid heightened concerns over the security of commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.

ADNOC confirmed that one of its vessels was struck by a missile during its passage through the strait. No injuries were reported and the situation was brought under control.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the incident and called for an immediate end to attacks threatening maritime navigation. The UAE also reiterated the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the safe and uninterrupted passage of commercial vessels.

UAE Condemns Threats to Maritime Navigation

In its response, the UAE described attacks on commercial shipping as a serious threat to freedom of navigation, regional security and international trade. The government said the safety of maritime routes must be protected in accordance with international law.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy shipping routes, making security disruptions in the area a major concern for energy markets and global supply chains.

ADNOC Reports Repeated Attacks on Vessels

The latest incident follows a series of attacks affecting ADNOC shipping operations. The company said on August 7 that 15 of its vessels had been targeted by missiles and drones since the start of the current conflict, including three vessels during that week.

According to ADNOC, the earlier attacks resulted in one crew member being killed and 20 people being injured. The company said it continues to coordinate with relevant authorities to safeguard its personnel, assets and operations while supporting customer requirements.

Calls for Safe Passage Through Strait of Hormuz

The UAE has renewed its call for freedom of navigation and safe commercial passage through international waterways. The latest attack has added to regional and international concern over the risks facing vessels operating through the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the continuing security challenges, ADNOC has said it remains committed to maintaining operations and supporting customers while prioritising the safety of its workforce and shipping activities.
