UAE President Arrives in Germany for State Visit to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Berlin: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Berlin on September 9 for a state visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, marking an important step in the long-standing strategic relationship between the two countries. 

Upon entering German airspace, the aircraft carrying Sheikh Mohamed was escorted by German military jets as a gesture of welcome. An official reception ceremony was held on arrival, featuring a 21-gun salute and a guard of honour. 

Talks With German Leadership

During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed is expected to meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The leaders are set to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the UAE and Germany, particularly in economic and development sectors, while also reviewing regional and international developments of mutual interest. The talks are taking place within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries. 

Economic Ties Continue to Grow

UAE Ambassador to Germany Ahmed Al Attar described the state visit as a significant milestone in bilateral relations and said it could create new opportunities for cooperation.

The UAE and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1972, while their Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed in 2004. 

Economic links between the two countries have continued to strengthen. According to the UAE ambassador, non-oil trade reached $15.56 billion in 2025, an increase of approximately 14.6% compared with 2024. 

AI, Clean Energy and Advanced Technology in Focus

Beyond traditional trade, the two countries are increasingly looking at cooperation in sectors expected to shape the future economy.

These include:

•    Artificial intelligence 
•    Advanced technologies 
•    Clean energy and hydrogen 
•    Advanced manufacturing 
•    Digital infrastructure 
•    Logistics 

Germany brings significant industrial, technological and research expertise, while the UAE offers an advanced investment environment, major infrastructure and a strategic location connecting Asia, Europe and Africa.

Officials believe these complementary strengths could create opportunities for new investments, innovative projects, startups and entrepreneurs in both countries. 

High-Level UAE Delegation Accompanies President

Sheikh Mohamed is accompanied by a senior UAE delegation that includes Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with ministers and senior government officials responsible for foreign affairs, defence, industry, advanced technology, foreign trade and strategic research. 

The presence of the high-level delegation underlines the broad scope of discussions expected during the state visit.

A New Chapter in UAE–Germany Relations

The visit comes as both countries seek to expand cooperation beyond existing economic ties into future-focused sectors such as technology, sustainability and innovation.

With bilateral trade growing and both sides looking to accelerate cooperation in energy, AI and investment, the state visit could help pave the way for new projects and deeper UAE–German economic and strategic ties.
