UAE President Makes Surprise Visit to Lulu Hypermarket at Abu Dhabi's Mushrif Mall

ABU DHABI — UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan made a surprise visit to Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi, spending time among shoppers and residents at the Lulu Hypermarket in a warm, unannounced walkabout that delighted members of the public.

During the visit on Tuesday, Sheikh Mohamed toured various sections of the store, greeting shoppers, shaking hands with employees, and interacting with residents. He was accompanied by MA Yusuff Ali, Chairman and Managing Director of Lulu Group International. His Highness expressed appreciation for the group's efforts and initiatives in serving the UAE community and contributing to the country's retail sector.

Dressed in a dark blue kandura, the President took his time moving through the hypermarket, at points browsing the products on offer. In one widely shared clip, a man in a white kandura saluted him; Sheikh Mohamed smiled and placed his hand over his chest in a gesture of appreciation. Videos of the visit spread quickly across social media, with many users praising the President's warmth, humility, and easy engagement with the public.

The appearance was the latest in a series of unannounced public outings. Just days earlier, on Saturday, Sheikh Mohamed made a surprise visit to The Galleria Al Maryah Island — one of Abu Dhabi's busiest shopping destinations — where he walked among shoppers alongside a number of senior officials, footage of which also circulated widely online.

The visit coincided with International Youth Day, which the President marked by reaffirming the UAE's confidence and pride in its young people. In a post on X, he said young people are central to building a future of expanding opportunity, adding that empowering youth would remain a national priority as a lasting investment in shared progress and prosperity.

Such informal engagements have become a recurring feature of the UAE leadership's public life, reflecting a style of governance that emphasises direct contact with residents and citizens in everyday settings.
