When will UAE summer end? Temperatures to drop by up to 5°C from August 20

As residents look forward to the end of another hot UAE summer, forecasters say the weather could become more comfortable in the coming days. Temperatures are expected to ease, winds will strengthen and some parts of the country could see rain.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said the UAE is entering a period of changing weather conditions, with southerly winds, dust and reduced visibility expected before north-westerly winds bring cooler temperatures.

North-Westerly Winds to Bring Cooler Weather

Mohamed Al Ebri, director at the NCM, said southerly winds would continue to affect the country until Wednesday, bringing dusty conditions.

From Thursday, fresh north-westerly winds are expected to sweep across the UAE. These winds could also cause dust and reduced visibility in some areas.

The change in wind direction is expected to bring a noticeable improvement in temperatures.

Temperatures Could Drop by Up to 5°C

Residents may experience a temperature decline of around 4°C to 5°C from Thursday as north-westerly winds become stronger.

The changing weather pattern could also increase the possibility of mist and fog, particularly from Wednesday and Thursday onwards.

According to the NCM, this is a normal weather pattern towards the end of the UAE summer. As the land gradually cools while humidity remains relatively high, conditions can become favourable for fog formation.

UAE Summer Will Gradually Ease

The transition from peak summer to cooler weather will be gradual rather than immediate.

The NCM said summer in the UAE generally ends around September 23 onwards. Although temperatures are expected to fall, residents should still expect warm conditions for some time.

Cooler mornings and evenings are likely to return gradually, while humidity could continue to influence how temperatures feel.

Rain Forecast for Eastern and Southern UAE

The changing weather could also bring rainfall to some parts of the country later this week.

According to the NCM, Friday and Saturday could see rain associated with cumulus cloud formations, particularly across the eastern and southern areas of the UAE.

Rainfall is expected to be generally mild to moderate, although isolated areas could experience heavier showers.

El Niño Could Influence Winter Weather

Looking further ahead, the NCM has also highlighted the possibility of an El Niño influence during the coming winter.

Seasonal forecasts suggest El Niño conditions could continue through at least the end of 2026. However, long-range forecasts are less certain than short-term weather predictions.

The NCM expects potentially unsettled conditions during the December-to-March period, although the exact impact on UAE weather will become clearer as the season approaches.

The coming days could mark another step towards the UAE's gradual transition out of peak summer, with:
