Meet UAE residents who lost up to 34Kg in 9 months, embraced healthier lifestyles

Although the Dh5,000 bounty on offer as part of the Ras Al Khaimah Fitness Challenge may at first appear purely a monetary reward. For many competitors, it provided a strong incentive towards healthier behaviours that outlasted the competition itself. But the challenge has spurred participants to get fit, change their eating habits.


Teen Participant Loses 20kg After Lifestyle Transformation


A life-altering moment for 17-year-old Ali Mohammad Al Khateri, who seized the opportunity after seeing the fitness challenge. After the initial edition, he has shed 20kg since then — dropping from about 116–117kg to 97kg with a healthier diet and active lifestyle.


Al Khateri went beyond just the competition to discover lifelong lifestyle changes. He has since implemented a strict diet, monitored his portion sizes and registered his daily calorie consumption. He also walks regularly as part of his routine, being physically active every day.


Key Changes in Ali's Journey:

 

  • Dropped about 20kg at the end of the challenge.

  • I changed my eating style and started counting calories.

  • The addition of walking on a daily basis and increased physical activity.

  • Gained confidence through improved fitness.

  • Attributed to his mother for pushing him.


Despite not taking part in the second instalment, receiving a Dh5,000 prize did provide extra motivation to strive for his ideal weight and a healthier future.
Dedication Drives Abdulla Al Masafri to Lose 34kg

wo finishes in the Ras Al Khaimah Fitness Challenge was also there. He went from 148kg, to 114kg over nine months and finished eighth in series two.

He changed his lifestyle by exercising regularly: hitting the gym 4-5 times a week, walking every day and biking. In addition to exercising, he radically changed his diet and removed sodas, sweets and junk food.

His mother encouraged him but Abdulla said praise must go to his entire family for keeping him grounded and focused on what he117s trying to accomplish. He also noted that the rewards and incentives offered by the challenge are aimed at motivating participants to sustain healthier lifestyles.
